Carl Joachim Andersen (1847-1909) was one of the leading Danish flautists of his time and a founding member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He wrote eight volumes of études for flute, with which he sought to promote not only the technical but also the musical development of students. The Op. 15 series contains 24 études, one in every major and minor key arranged in relative major-minor pairs around the circle of fifths. Each piece gives the opportunity to practise different techniques such as articulation, tonguing, legato, intonation, intervals, arpeggios, chromatic scales, phrasing, and breathing control.

The volume is recommended for intermediate flautists with a few years of experience in instrumental studies participating in the advanced years of music schools.
