Judit Varga (b. 1979) lives and works in Vienna as a pianist and composer. Since 2013, she has been appointed lecturer at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, and she has been also teaching composition, film and media art at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
In 2016, on the 60th anniversary of the 1956 revolution, the Hungarian State Opera House commissioned and premiered her opera Love with great success. Her works have been performed at prestigious festivals such as Wien Modern, the Warsaw Autumn, the Budapest Autumn Festival, and they were premiered at Cité de la Musique (Paris), Juilliard School (New York), Munich’s Muffathall, and the Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna.
In 2017 she was awarded the Bartók-Pásztory Prize for his work, and in 2018 the Ferenc Erkel Prize. In 2014 she won the prize for best soundtrack of the Austrian Film Academy for her music to the film Deine Schönheit ist nichts Wert.
