Béla Bartók’s six string quartets, composed between 1908 and 1940, are among the milestones of the genre in the 20th century. This slipcase contains the works in six handy, first-class pocket scores. Each of these very different works is a gem and contains a veritable firework of string colours and rhythmical finesse. The edition, supervised by Bartók scholars László Somfai and Zsombor Németh, takes into account not only the handwritten and printed sources, but also letters and notes by the composer.
It thus offers a top-quality musical text as well as fascinating notes on its genesis and performance practice. The musical text follows the Complete Edition of Béla Bartók's Works, also published by G. Henle Publishers.
